Social Responsibility

In keeping with our Core Values, Discovery has a Corporate and Social Responsibility (CSR) program that involves not only the Company; but also, our staff and their families.

Giving Back

We believe in giving back through service and when we can, through responsible financial contributions to improve the lives of others – not only in our back yard, but in terms of a global prospective. In that regard, we provide our staff with an annual amount to participate in lending cycles to micro entrepreneurs globally through kiva.com. See how well are our team is doing at Kiva Community.

We have also supported local organizations who help students with disabilities, such as the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association, as well as long-term Hospice facilities.

We encourage and support our staff and their families to participate (through service or financially) in local events that raise funds and awareness for cancer and diabetes research , help to alleviate global poverty, local animal shelters, just to name a few.

Health and Well Being

As part of our CSR program, we encourage our staff to enhance their quality of life through healthier food choices and exercise. We provide healthy food choices in our kitchen and during our monthly staff lunches and barbeques. We encourage staff to participate in a daily 20 minute group walk for exercise and team-building when it is not raining!

Discovery is also committed to reducing our carbon footprint. We recycle everything we possibly can, from computers to paper, and avoid wastage in any form. We conduct as much of our business as possible online, and send our products to customers by email to avoid the environmental impact of shipping physical packages.

Charities and Organizations

We would like to take this opportunity to share with you the charities and organizations Discovery Software and our employees are evolved with.

The Weekend to End Breast Cancer

You don’t think about cancer until it hits someone in your family. The Weekend to End Breast Cancer is a 3 day event and 60 km walk in the fight against breast cancer and other women’s cancers. The money raised will go to benefit BC Cancer Foundation. My aunt and grandma are both breast cancer survivors and once you get involved in the Weekend to End Breast Cancer its hard to stop the momentum. It’s a powerful weekend that makes you smile, cry, laugh and just so appreciative of the people in your lives.

Ann Alderson

Langley Animal Protection Society

My daughter, Jayda, is an animal lover, especially of cats. Instead of gifts on her birthday, she enthusiastically collects donations for LAPS and brings them done to the shelter herself. Jayda only wishes she could do more, which includes bringing all the cats home with her. So we are now also donating our time – visiting the shelter on a weekly basis to visit and socialize with the cats and kittens.

BC Children’s Hospital Foundation

My son, Skyler, believes he owes his life to BC Children’s Hospital. At seven months old, he had a pacemaker implanted and continues to visit BC Children’s Hospital for check-ups. In lieu of birthday gifts on his birthday, Skyler asks for donations to BC Children’s Hospital Foundation so he can give back for them saving his life.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

As Dan has Type I diabetes, he and I support JDRF, which focuses it’s research in this area. We’ve recently had the opportunity to attend a research symposium, and it’s been very exciting to learn about what’s new & upcoming in treatment options.

Electronic Recycling Association

The Electronic Recycling Association is a nonprofit organization that donates and recycles computers and electronics. The ERA will erase your data refurbish it, and give it to someone who cannot afford a new computer. The ERA enables Discovery Software to donate our unused hardware, so it can be reused by the less fortunate and cut down on our carbon footprint.
