Our History
In 1984, a Computer Science teacher embarked on the creation of a gradebook and attendance package that would assist him with managing student records. This project also helped his students learn the art of software development, and together they created a gradebook named “reMark!” which subsequently evolved into the enormously successful InteGrade Pro.
The initial success of reMark! led to the creation of Discovery Software by the teacher and some of his students. This same teacher now heads the research arm of the company and continues to create software that is used by thousands of administrators and educators throughout the United States and Canada.
The sale of the gradebook to a large Student Information System (SIS) Vendor began the next chapter in the company’s history as it transitioned into a consulting company to SIS vendors, providing solutions on assessment and state requirements. Discovery Software’s ability to provide cross-platform, new technology solutions soon led to the company becoming a respected K-12 consulting services company working with most of the larger SIS companies in the United States and Canada.
Discovery Software’s technology reputation extended beyond the K-12 industry and its services are sought by companies in various industries for data-mining and warehousing solutions. After a few years of developing a broader base of technological expertise, the entrepreneurial spirit of the founding group rekindled and, with the advent of handhelds, Discovery Software created a new software application, Principalm. Principalm extends the power of the SIS by providing mobile access to school and student information on a handheld device. It is used by thousands of schools across the United States and Canada, and is considered to be the market leader in terms of connections to SISs, features and functionality.
The proprietary technology used to develop connections to SISs led to the development of a subset of data transporters for other applications provided by Discovery’s accredited partner companies that offer value add to enhancing student/teacher/administrators performance, communication and communities.
